When your application requires that a task be performed that can not be completed with standard air cylinders, SMC can help you find the solution. SMC offers a variety of specialty air cylinders including Sine (smooth acceleration), Load Stopping, and Clamp to name a few. For example, the transportation of delicate items often requires greater control of cylinder speed, acceleration and deceleration than is afforded by traditional pneumatic cylinders. For this reason, SMC has developed a RE series of sine cylinders. These cylinders facilitate high-speed transportation of work but have very smooth actuation (similar to sine wave).

For your demanding applications our large engineering department can customize a product solution for you. Need a special variation on our standard pneumatic rotary actuator? No problem. We can create a three-stop rotary unit to meet your custom needs.

SMC's CLK2 series is a perfect choice for holding applications in either a clamped or unclamped state.  CLK2 cylinders have a compact lock mechanism which minimizes the extension of the length dimension (2mm shorter), while maintaining the mounting interchangeability with the CLK1 existing product line.  The CLK2 is capable of being locked at any position within the entire stroke.  A dedicated solenoid valve is not required for unlocking, thus reducing the initial costs and replacement of the existing equipment. The CLS series cylinder with lock is ideal for applications requiring intermediate and emergency stop and drop prevention. The compact lock unit is lightweight and saves space. A switch is optional on the brake cylinder so the operating state of the lock unit (brake piston) can be detected using the switch signal. An equal holding force in extending and retracting directions make it possible to lock at either end of the stroke. High reliability and stable holding force are maintained by using a substantially lengthened brake shoe with superior wear resistance. High speed or high load cylinder applications frequently require additional speed and flow control devices to control the stopping of the load. SMC's RHC series features a longer cushion design which is capable of stopping heavy or high speed loads while maintaining the simplicity of a standard air cushion cylinder. This enhanced cushion allows the kinetic distance, which results in the ability to absorb up to 23.8 ft-lb of energy and operate reliably at speeds up to 118 in/sec. Even with the improved performance of the RHC, cushion adjustment remains as simple as adjusting the cushion needle valve.
